How does the flight tracking work
Here we explain how we track your flights and how you can set this up
Connect your account and fly. It's that simple.
We believe that a good tracking system for your flights does not require addition software on top of all the software that is already required to fly a Flight Simulator. This is why we use the VATSIM (and soon IVAO) network to track you as a virtual pilot. To be able to track your flights, you need a FlightDeck account linked to your VATSIM or IVAO account. You will do this upon logging in for the first time.
Once you have an account, you can choose either of two options to track your flights. You can choose this at Settings > Privacy > Flight Tracking
1. Automatic tracking (recommended)
This is by far the easiest option to choose. If you choose this option, we will just look out for your CID/VID on the VATSIM/IVAO network. Once you are online on the network, we detect you and your flight, and we will startin tracking it. You can see its status on your Overview page and Flight page.
2. Manual tracking
This mode will track non of your flights except if you have FD-FLIGHT in your remarks. This means that you get to choose which flight is tracked by FlightDeck and which are not. Choose this option if you don't want all flights tracked.
I'm online on the network but my flight is not tracked
This can happen due to many reasons, but most often it's because you're either connected to the network without a prefiled flight plan or you're logged in as an observer. If you use manual tracking, you might have forgotten the 'FD-FLIGHT' remark.
If you still don't see yourself online on FlightDeck, this could be due to a VATSIM or IVAO API outage. Unfortunately, this is not without our hands as we heavily rely on data API's.
